This has been an almost perfect summer, weather and otherwise. I’ve had so many amazing experiences with students, animals, and spirit allies while teaching in-person and online classes and leading field trips. And I have taken a plethora of photos. The only problem (and one reason why my summer is not sheer perfection) is that I have had almost no time to write!

At this point it would be impossible to write all the stories so instead I will have to offer you highlights and hope to catch up after I return from A Walk on the Wild Side.

JUNE

Animal ReikiShamanic at Serenity
My students offered healing sessions to the rescue animals at Serenity Equine Rescue for the first field trip of their 6-month training. We worked with several horses, assisting some with abuse and others with issues related to aging. We also worked and with friendly, talkative Peanut the pig who had some back issues.

Whales in Art

As part of my current shamanic call to work with the whales—I attended a very special event hosted by Stonington Gallery: a joint lecture on the marine life of Puget Sound with artist Raven Skyriver and Seattle Aquarium Veterinarian Dr. Lesanna Lahnerand.

It was wonderful to listen to other dedicated people who are also working to support the animals and Pachamama. I was delighted to learn that Dr. Lahnerand offe rs acupuncture and acupressure to all the beings at Seattle Aquarium and that she has pioneered artificial eye surgery for fish (apparently eye diseases are a #1 problem with fish, often resulting in death due to attacks by others – if they look normal the fish don’t attack them).

I also had a wonderful time looking at the amazing blown glass whales created by Raven Skyriver. My favorite was the Bryde’s Whale, which had a lot of energy emanating from it. When I asked Raven Skyriver why that particular piece had so much energy he said it was the last one created in this series, and even though it was the largest piece of all he had finally mastered enough of the technical process to really connect with the spirit of the whale. I can’t wait to see what direction the energy leads him next!

Evening Walk on the Wild Side at the Woodland Park Zoo

What an evening! Just when I think I’ve seen it all the animals and spirit allies come up with something new that inspires me and feeds my soul. I will write more in-depth for next newsletter which will include a special message from African elephant Watoto who crossed into spirit the day before our event. I would say she will be missed, but it appears that she intends to continue teaching in my classes so while I will no longer be able to gaze upon the beauty of her physical form she will never be far away…

During our visit to the Day Exhibit I connected with the dwarf male crocodile in the Day Exhibit who shared his wisdom of relaxing by basking in the sun. And I realized that he was suggesting that I take some time off—that there should be time for rest as well as action. So I did just that the following day—sat in the sun in my garden with Manitou and a good book. Great advice, thanks Crocodile!

Animal ReikiShamanic at Pasado’s Safe Haven
When we arrived the animals were ready and waiting for us at Pasado’s Safe Haven. Splash the pig and Romeo the goose received special sessions to help them clear past trauma, senior dogs and Charles the cat got some extra energetic support from the students.
