Bull Buffalo Encounter, ReikiShamanic Puzzle and Quote
For those of you who love animals and nature (I imagine that would be everyone reading), I had been publishing a new ReikiShamanic puzzle biweekly on Friday here on my website. Currently, the biweekly puzzle + quote is available to Wayras patrons on my Patreon page (free 7-day trial for new subscribers). Now you can adjust the number of pieces to increase the difficulty and enjoy a larger format. It’s a fun way to reflect on restoring connections with All Our Relations, enjoy an inspirational quote, and support my pro bono work for animals.
The last image published here is Bull Buffalo Enjoys an Earth Wallow, and it was taken on a journey in ceremony for A Walk on the Wild Side with wildlife in Yellowstone National Park.
Interesting things can happen when we set our intention to listen and collect the prayers and wishes of the animals!
Charolette and I were driving through the Lamar Valley, admiring the beautiful scenic landscape which had a light covering of snow.
We’d recently left the mob of eager photographers who were excitedly watching a pack of 16-17 wolves about a mile away, and having the road (and the scenery) to ourselves was a relief.
About 100 yards ahead, I noticed a lone bull buffalo ambling along in the sagebrush. We pulled over to offer him the Buffalo Blanket. He paused and then began to stroll our way. He forded a small stream, stopped to investigate some grasses, and kept coming.
I grew more and more excited as he got closer and closer—it felt like something special was going to happen—and there was no one else there but us and the Buffalo Blanket!
We were parked atop a little hill on the curve of the road. The bull was definitely aware of us, but we were sitting quietly and respectfully in our car above him, so he continued on to his goal which turned out to be a lovely patch of open earth at the bottom of the hill.
The end of breeding season was close, but not yet over, so this handsome gentleman felt he needed a trip to the spa for a bit of a makeover to please the ladies and demonstrate his prowess to rivals. Bull buffalo weigh roughly 2000 pounds, and it looks like it is all muscle, so it was quite something to watch as he lowered himself to the ground and began a slow motion wiggle-and-roll in the loose earth.
As he rolled on his back and raised his hooves skyward, I felt his joy in physically being a buffalo. He reveled in a good back scratch while dousing himself liberally in the buffalo equivalent of male aftershave (the bulls urinate on the loose earth before wallowing—the cologne the lady buffalo love best since it offers information about how strong and virile their potential suitors are).
To be present for that moment—to share in his power of being all buffalo and his surrender to the earth in a moment of deepest connection—brought me joy, and I smiled to see how much fun he was having while doing it.
All of that is rolled up into the one image I chose for this week, and I love the quote that I found to pair with it. I think Mr. GQ Bull Buffalo would approve of the advice.
