Cashews For Crow Rogue

Cashews for Crow Rogue

Every day I put out some mixed nuts (sold just for wildlife). Crow Rogue and I have formed a friendship over time, and he trusts me enough to drop down from his perch on the wire to get close to me to get first choice.

One day I asked him if he had a favorite type of nut out of the many different kinds in the mix. He immediately said, “Cashews.” After that, I would search out a few cashews to offer him first, which seemed to please him.

One day I forgot, and when I tossed a handful of nuts out that contained no cashews he looked them over and then stood there waiting (practically tapping his foot), until his usual offering was presented. Clearly he meant what he said, he knew that I heard him, and he was not going to settle for less than full service at the Wild Rose Cafe!

Unfortunately, the recent bag of nuts contained almost no cashews. For days I searched in vain. I would place all the other kinds of nuts out, and for a while he would stand there, even coming to within feet of the front door so he could stare in at me accusingly. I felt so badly about letting him down, that during my last trip to the grocery store I managed to score him some organic raw cashews (pricey, lol, but he’s worth it).

Now he has his cashews back, and I make sure he knows that they are special, just like him.

In the photo sequence you can see that Rogue lines the cashews up on the ground so that when he picks them up they interlock for ease of carrying.
