Quotes

Be praised, my Lord, through all your creatures, especially through my lord Brother Sun, who brings the day; and you give light through him. And he is beautiful and radiant in all his splendor! Of you, Most High, he bears the likeness. Be praised, my Lord, through Sister Moon and the stars; in the heavens you have made them, precious and beautiful. Be praised, my Lord, through Brothers Wind and Air, and clouds and storms, and all the weather, through which you give your creatures sustenance. Be praised, My Lord, through Sister Water; she is very useful, and humble, and precious, and pure. Be praised, my Lord, through Brother Fire, through whom you brighten the night. He is beautiful and cheerful, and powerful and strong. Be praised, my Lord, through our sister Mother Earth, who feeds us and rules us, and produces various fruits with colored flowers and herbs. Be praised, my Lord, through those who forgive for love of you; through those who endure sickness and trial. Happy those who endure in peace, for they will be crowned. ― St. Francis of Assisi, Canticle of the Sun

O Reiki Tree

“O Reiki Tree” photo Rose De Dan©2011

Every year I have had a Christmas tree—the holiday season simply would not feel complete without one. When I was old enough to drive I took over the job of choosing from my father who simply did not enjoy the task as I did. To find it I would …Continue reading

Riggin’ Up the Lights

Picking out the tree was mostly easy, once I asked the right questions. However the annual challenge of Christmas lights did not go so smoothly. After a series of events, listed below, I had to take a mini break from “riggin’ up the lights.”

• Two indoor wreaths had …Continue reading

Christmas Past, Christmas Present and Aunt Rose

It all started with my desire to give a special Christmas gift to my niece and nephew, who are two and four respectively. I saw the ad for the Hallmark recording storybook “The Night Before Christmas” and instantly knew this was a great idea. Due to circumstances I had been unable to travel to visit them in person. Aunt Rose was simply a voice on the phone or perhaps a photograph. But with the storybook their Aunt Rose could read them her much loved Christmas classic from 1823 at bedtime, and perhaps they could have wonderful dreams filled with promises of Santa’s visit on Christmas Eve. …Continue reading

Christmas Card Love

Wild Reiki and Shamanic Healing Christmas Lights 2009

This week I repeated a time-honored yearly tradition, the displaying of the holiday cards I receive from family, friends, clients and students. A tradition I learned from my parents, who had a unique husband/wife practice – Dad the dentist, Mom the dental hygienist/office manager.

My father truly loved his …Continue reading

Northern Cat Lights

Recently I purchased a long-overdue, new computer. My new iMac has sped up my work life immensely, and is a sculptural work of art, for a computer (thanks, Apple and Steve Jobs!). However, it has an additional, and probably unanticipated benefit: my cat, Kiya, loves one of the screen savers.

Originally I had used one of the …Continue reading

Puma runs snowy arches in Schmitz Park ©2008 Rose De Dan

This morning when I woke up I knew, even without my contact lenses in, that something was different. There was a kind of glow coming from the window. I did not have to squint, there was snow on the rooftops! Having lived in Massachusetts for …Continue reading

Cat Christmas Spirit

Here Kiya, the Box Queen, age 13, and Saqqara, age 15, engage in a bit of play. After so many years together as a family, it was really fun to see the older cats wake up as soon as they heard the sound of the wrapping paper being unrolled. More than one present has a bit …Continue reading

The First Day of Christmas

Christmas morning I was coming back from walking my dog Puma when I heard the familiar tic-tic-tic sound of a hummingbird. For those not from the Seattle area we actually have hummingbirds that overwinter here wherever there is food supplied. In this case it is my neighbor across the street who has the hummingbird feeder and …Continue reading
