Hey, Masked Reiki Lady!

It was dusk, and I was enjoying my walk through the neighborhood. The air was damp and cool, even through my pandemic-inspired mask.

I was a block away from home, when a gray shape darted from my right, and came to a stop in the middle of the sidewalk. It was an adult rabbit. She was about seven feet away, and she was looking at me.

I’d stopped walking as soon as she came to a halt, and I respectfully greeted her.

She surprised me by asking, “Are you the Reiki lady?”

Me: “Um, yes? Why, would you like some?”

Rabbit: “Yes.”

So, as twilight deepened, I began sending Reiki to Rabbit. The instant she felt the energy, Rabbit moved off the sidewalk onto the grassy edge, and relaxed into receiving.

For the next five minutes I stood on the sidewalk, feeling the flow of the energy as Rabbit accepted and enjoyed. I idly wondered whether any neighbors might notice my stillness and be curious; I hoped the energy would allow us to remain undisturbed. Gradually, the flow of energy to Rabbit slowed and stopped, and I felt her acknowledge she was complete.

I told Rabbit I was glad to have met her, and that I needed to continue on home. I let her know that meant I needed to walk past her, and hoped that my doing so would not be scary for her. She was fine. I felt deeply honored by being allowed to pass by within three feet of her.

As I continued on my way, Rabbit continued on hers, fortified by a bit of energy healing from the Masked Reiki Lady she had waylaid. Could that be considered Highway Reik-ery?
