Animal Holiday Blessings
Greetings all! Thought I would share a bit of my holiday cheer in the form of the new ornament on my Christmas tree—a humpback whale! Definitely not what I was expecting to bring home when I went in search of my tree, but when I saw Whale I not only knew he wanted to come home with me, but also that the Whales were calling me to back for another Whale Teachers next year. Shamanic messages and communications from the animals come in mysterious ways sometimes…
Speaking of messages from the animals, you are all going to think I made the following story up, but I assure you that every word is true. Sometimes truth IS stranger than fiction!
One of my friends gave me a holiday card that touched me deeply when I saw its message of Peace on Earth.
For me the art supported my hope for healing with the help of All Our Relations (work that is obviously near and dear to my heart). I placed the card reverently under my tree (the one with Whale ornament placed prominently front and center).
A day later I picked the card up to once again enjoy its beauty, and felt an impulse to turn it over and look at the back. To my surprise I discovered that there was something stuck to the back of the card. Without my reading glasses I could not clearly see what it was. With glasses located I was astonished to discover that it was not a something, but a someone—a living snail!
Snail was not only stuck firmly to the card, he was also having dinner! The card was printed on an antique press and made from 100% recycled paper—apparently Snail thought it tasted pretty good. I am guessing that Snail hitchhiked in on my tree, and perhaps tiring of a diet of evergreen, decided to move on to more flavorful pastures.
Pickings looked pretty slim for Snail in my arid house, so I gently carried him outside where I hoped that he would enjoy a wonderful holiday feast. As an avid gardener I can assure you that I have never wished that for any snail before, but what better time for such a wish than the season of goodwill to all?
As I reflected on possible messages in this very unusual event my eyes fell on Whale—one of the largest animals currently living on Earth. As I mused on the contrast in size with diminutive Snail I took another look at all the animals represented on the front of the card, and realized that most of them—while not as large as Whale—were still much larger than Snail. And then—shamanic drum roll, please—I suddenly SAW the snail on the tree of Peace which I had totally missed previously!
Message? Balance (in the form of Peace on Earth) can only be obtained by recognition that the web of life includes all creatures great and small!
Blessings for Peace on Earth from All Creatures Great and Small—together we can heal—together we are strong!
