From Stubborn Birds to Sacred Rhythms
Life is never dull at the Wild Reiki Spa, and just because I can communicate with other species, it does not mean that they will do what I ask.
I was relaxing on my lounge chair and heard a bird splashing in the fountain. Not a big deal, but I knew that Tamerlan was somewhere nearby, so I got up to look. Despite my being less than 10 feet away, the bird continued bathing, and Tamerlan was crouched in a ready-set-go position under my lounge chair. I tried to shoo Tamerlan away, but since I could not reach him, he ignored me. So, I stepped in front of Tamerlan’s gaze, and he shifted to work his way around me.
Having failed in that direction, I turned my attention to the still bathing bird. I stepped forward to within five feet. I was certain that my looming presence would scare the bird off, but I was wrong. Completely unfazed by my presence, he continued splashing away. I could feel his determination, a desire akin to the one I would have after a long, sweaty day working in the garden; he was not leaving. I mentally said, “But what about the cat?” and gesturing to my right, where Tamerlan was winding up his hindquarters for a run at the feathered temptation. The bird responded with a feeling of digging in his heels (he was NOT giving up this blissful moment for anyone), and he confidently responded with, “You deal with it.”
Giving in, I turned my back on the bird and planted myself firmly in front of Tamerlan while projecting Gandalf’s energy of “Thou shalt not pass!” Tamerlan remained in position, and drying himself off with a fluff and a shake, a very self-satisfied bird flew up to the hedge for a bit of an air dry. And that’s how I was hired as a Bird Bodyguard.
Note: For those who might not be aware, Tamerlan showed up as a starving 3-5 year-old tomcat three years ago (it is his anniversary this month). He was also semi-feral and had lived outdoors all his life. He has managed to domesticate himself to the point that he goes outside for a couple of hours during the day, and we compromised on his being in before dark. I would prefer he be an indoor-only cat, but he is not that kind of cat. I do my best to keep the birds safe, but I cannot be everywhere, so I do send Reiki to the situation and pray that the birds are not as stubborn as this one, lol

This week feels like a turning point. The seasons are shifting, and so are some of the offerings here.
First, a reminder: Reiki 1 is already underway, but there’s still time to join us. If you register by September 17, you can easily catch up on the first class through the replay and step fully into the training as we continue. If you’ve been feeling the call to explore Reiki for personal healing, this is your last chance until the next session opens.
And second, a note about Sacred Rhythms: A Year in Nature’s Wisdom. Since its debut in May, with the help of our allies and guides, the monthly offerings have naturally blossomed into something far richer than Claudine and I could have imagined—woven with story, seasonal teachings, and connections to All Our Relations. Each monthly theme includes:
- A shamanic journey guided by the wisdom of Claudine Records’ spirit allies
- A grounding practice that helps bring the teachings into daily life
- A story that illuminates the theme in a fresh way
- A digital photo puzzle, book recommendations, inspiring quotes, and a hand-picked music playlist
- Up to 15 wildlife cam videos from the Wild Reiki Spa and Wild Rose Café, often with my own storytelling to add depth and connection
On average, each month represents around 40 hours of work and creative curation. And for you, it offers weeks of enjoyment and inspiration—for less than the cost of a single movie ticket.
Here’s how participants are describing their experiences:
• “Soothing, inspiring, and a precious reminder that Beauty and Light are always here for us.”
• “Fun, powerful, and full of playfulness—I felt supported and carefree.”
• “I can see how much work has gone into this—such an original and beautiful format.”
Beginning October 1, the price of Sacred Rhythms will be $149 for the full year.
That still works out to about $12 a month to walk through the seasons with guided practices, wild stories, and animal companions by your side. If you’ve been considering joining, this is your chance to step in at the current $99 rate before the increase.
Enjoy the blessings of the season,
