Medicine Buddha Blessings

It has been a demanding week, marked by challenges and a loss.

On Monday, a client who had become a friend through a shared love of cats in general, and rescues specifically, shed her failing body. I am certain that she was met by a plenitude of beings, animal and human, whose lives she touched. I am grateful that her passing was peaceful, but I will miss her caring heart, strength in dealing with life’s adversities, and her wild and sometimes inappropriate sense of humor.

Sue was one of my dedicated Cat Food Angels, always making sure that my foster cats had what they needed when I sent out yet another plea for donations. She even sponsored half of their adoption fee through Red Rose Animal Rescue.

She was also a Patreon supporter, taking the time to engage and comment, encouraging me to keep on writing, creating, and offering ceremonies for the animals.

I did not find out about Sue’s passing until Tuesday afternoon. After a long illness, her death was not unexpected, but I still had tears and will grieve her absence in my life for a while through many moments that we used to share.

However, while speaking with a shaman friend, I received a sudden insight into a recent experience that felt right.

Years ago, I received the Medicine Buddha empowerment from a Tibetan Lama and had the occasion to witness its healing power and its potential benefits for those who were dying, which inspired me to include it in her session. I also found the chanted mantra online and sent her the link, which she found soothing.

Late Monday afternoon of the day that Sue passed, I looked out the back door and noticed the daisies (next to Buddha), ablaze with a shaft of light from the setting sun. I felt compelled to take a photo. The photo does not do the moment justice, but the feeling of peace and sacredness lives on in my heart and memory. Once I became aware that Sue had transitioned that same day, I knew it was a message from her.

Shine on brightly, my cat-loving friend!

P.S. Sue loved her cat Nutmeg deeply. So deeply, that from the hospital, she made the heartbreaking decision to return senior cat Nutmeg to the shelter she was adopted from three years before, because there was no one else to care for her. Nutmeg is a sweetheart. It would bring happiness to the hearts of all of us who grieve the loss of Sue if she could find her forever home. Take a look at Nutmeg’s profile on MEOW.
