Starlings Enjoy Birdbath Pool Party Fun

I heard them before I saw them. A flock of starlings was visiting the new, roomier birdbath.

From past experience, I knew that if I stepped outside to take photos the starlings would spook and fly away, and I didn’t want to put an end to their secret pool party fun (although their shrill cries of whooping, joyful abandon made it not so much of a secret).

The only other option was to shoot (on an angle) through a pane of glass that is at least 60 years old, and then I had to find an opening in the dense shrubbery to shoot through.

The result was a somewhat surreal, dreamlike sequence. I’d think the starlings would approve!
