This class will focus on information and exercises (some shamanic) that will allow you to receive greater intuitive guidance from your pendulum. Purchase of a pendulum from the WRSH store is not required, however, for some of the exercises, it is recommended that your pendulum have a stone pendant rather than metal or other materials.

If you do not own a pendulum there will be ones available for purchase the day of class or you can order online (if you want to be sure a certain one does not get sold in the Christmas rush).

A Walk on the Wild Side: Answering the Call of the Wild is a unique event, offering participants the opportunity to meet highly respected wild Animal Ambassadors face-to-face, participate in shamanic ceremonies and learn from them over four days at Earthfire Institute.

The intention of the weekend is to break down barriers and build bridges of unity and connection, facilitating healing for all participants, both two- and four-legged. The result? Increased intuitive awareness and communication skills (applicable to all species), and freedom from limiting patterns and lifelong negative beliefs. A powerful opportunity for deep personal healing as well as global transformation!

In 2010 I had the privilege of leading a group of people and animals in this first-ever of its kind event at Earthfire Institute Wildlife Sanctuary and Retreat Center, and we returned again in 2011. Both were powerful and life-changing experiences for all participants, myself included.

It is a 40-acre wildlife sanctuary and loving home for animals that can never be released into the wild, and a refuge for reflecting—in their company—on how to create a truly sustainable world. The animals that make Earthfire Institute their home are representatives of the native wildlife that populate the Yellowstone to Yukon Wildlife Corridor, an uninterrupted pathway along which plants and animals still migrate, keeping their genes flowing and their species strong. It is the last, best corridor of its kind in the world, and Earthfire and its location offers a truly unique opportunity for hosting this landmark event.

A Wild Way to Heal

Our intention for being with the animals is threefold: to connect with them, to learn from them, and—as partners—to work together in ceremony. Prior to the event I will dialogue with the animals about our intentions and theirs, and will journey for guidance.

Once we are gathered as a group I will invoke sacred space in the shamanic tradition for the duration of the weekend. Opening sacred space makes it possible for Spirit to manifest strongly both for and through the animals, establishing stronger connections with the animals present—and as they are ambassadors—with animals all over the world.

With the support of spirit allies and in sacred space, we will weave together the energy from storytelling, education about wildlife, shamanic journeys and ceremonies, along with visits, interactions and guidance from the wild animals themselves.

We will bring that energy and information to fire ceremony with the intention of creating healing and support for All Our Relations, thereby assisting in creating positive shifts in our awareness as well as for the planet. The ultimate vision is the creation of a world where we all live in harmony.

Think Outside the Cage

Meeting a wild animal, face-to-face, in an environment where they feel safe and relaxed, gives us the opportunity to discover the warmth, depth, mischief, and compassion that they are capable of showing toward their world and us, their human relatives. It’s a rare opportunity and a powerful experience.

Earthfire’s vision is to create a bridge connecting humans with the natural world through the voices of rescued native wildlife under its care. During the course of the weekend we will have the opportunity to meet all of its inhabitants.

Its 40-acre sanctuary houses over 60 animals, including wolves, grizzly and black bears, bison, lynx, foxes, bobcat, coyotes, horses, burros and other wild creatures. Depending on circumstances and the particular animal’s needs, we will either visit with them at their enclosures, or be invited to commune with them in the yurt or Wildlife Garden where they are free to roam, play or interact with us as they choose.

A Walk on the Wild Side event is focused and customized, and space is limited to a small number of people so that we can have less impact on the animals and more personalized experiences. We will be living, learning and working as a community while spending time with the animals.

Prerequisites: No previous background in energy work or animal communication required. A willingness to listen and respect the animals as equals, is.

By Car: If driving from the Seattle area, travel time is approximately 12-14 hours

Nearest Airports:

Jackson Hole, Wyoming, located approximately one hour away
Idaho Falls, Idaho, approximately an hour and 15 minutes drive

Idaho Falls is an expensive connection, so you may opt to fly into Salt Lake City and either rent a car or take a shuttle to Rexburg where you can rent a car to finish your journey to Teton Valley.

Who We Are

Wild Reiki and Shamanic Healing LLC

Rose De Dan is an animal communicator, Reiki Master Teacher, shamanic practitioner, author and artist based in Seattle, WA.

In 1996, while living in Worcester, Mass., she had a life-changing experience during a Reiki class and was gifted with a vision of a healing practice for animals. In pursuing that vision, Rose began to remember her childhood dreams and passion to help animals.

In the process of becoming an energy healer, animal shaman, and voice for the animals, Rose found her practice evolving into building bridges between people and domestic and wild animals. Earthfire Institute

Susan B. Eirich, Ph.D., Executive Director, founded Earthfire Institute in 2000 to develop a new model of relating to nature; to give a voice to wildlife and help people find their own natural voice.

“When I was about five years old I remember asking my mother about why animals didn’t have equal rights to humans. Studying for my Ph.D in psychology, a scrawny kitten crawled on the farm where I was living and I experienced the deepest love of my life. I hadn’t even had an affinity for cats. It was the beginning of growing into an awareness of the profound connection that is possible with animals that continues to expand and amaze me.”

Living with bears and wolves, cougars and coyotes, foxes, badgers, buffalo and more, Susan uses this unique opportunity to deepen and share her understandings of wild animals, with the goal of forging a richer relationship between these wonderful creatures and humans.

A licensed psychologist, biologist and educator, she has taught at universities around the world, worked in maximum security prisons, developed a university counseling center, directed a Nature Conservancy Preserve, and lived in remote corners of Nepal, the Mid- and Far East, the Northwest Territories and the Amazon rainforest.

Her goal is always to see through other’s eyes as a way to enhance understanding between cultures, peoples and species.

Jean Simpson, Wildlife Expert
When Jean was five he drew a picture of himself walking in a park in France with animals following him. His mother said they always did.

Studying to be a vet in Paris, he realized that he wanted a deeper relationship with animals than that would allow. He moved to the Rocky Mountains and taught himself how to train wolves through living with and understanding them. This led to a career training wild animals for movies, where he developed techniques based on reward and an amazing grasp of each species and each individual of that species.

In 1989 he founded The Wild Bunch Ranch so that he could train based on his unique understanding of each species, and each individual of that species. He has trained and consulted on feature films, documentaries, commercials and still shoots, and worked with many of the most famous wildlife artists and photographers in the country.

He is known in the industry for his humane training methods, his safety record, the beautiful condition of his animals, and his ability to get outstanding performances from them. Jean brings his talents in understanding and handling wild animals to Earthfire, as well as serving as consultant on animal welfare, safety and animal home design.

To see how he works with Humble Bumble, the learning-disabled grizzly bear, or Pinkerton the blind lynx, is an enlightenment. The knowledge and thought he gives to designing homes and playgrounds for the animals gives us delightful insight into their emotional and physical needs and pleasures.
